Batia Contracting was founded in 2013 by Jacques Jansen van Rensburg and Tabie la Grange after identifying a clear gap in the construction industry: the need for smaller, more cost-effective mobile cranes that are properly matched to the task at hand. Too often, steel and construction companies were forced to hire oversized cranes, driving up costs unnecessarily. Batia was established to offer a smarter alternative—right-sized lifting solutions that improve efficiency without compromising performance or safety.

What began with a single 10-ton crane has grown into a well-established operation serving clients across South Africa, including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the Free State, North West, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Eastern Cape. Today, our fleet includes 8-ton, 10-ton, 20-ton, 25-ton, 35-ton, 50-ton, and 90-ton mobile cranes, all meticulously maintained and operated by experienced professionals.

Batia Contracting has built its reputation on hands-on service, reliability, and long-term thinking. We are proud to still serve our very first client and to retain the core team members who helped build the business from its early days. These enduring relationships reflect our commitment to trust, consistency, and mutual respect—values that guide every project we take on.

Our experience spans the industrial, construction, and mining sectors, where safety, precision, and efficiency are non-negotiable. We approach every project with a solutions-driven mindset, adapting to the evolving needs of our clients and ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and in a cost-effective manner.

The Name Batia

Before founding Batia Contracting, Jacques and Tabie met in their early twenties while working as field guides in the bushveld. Years later, while working together in the Madikwe Game Reserve, they became familiar with two legendary male lions known as the Batia Brothers. Renowned for their dark manes, strength, and commanding presence, the Batia Brothers ruled the reserve for years and became symbols of power, resilience, and quiet authority.

The name Batia reflects these same qualities—strength, reliability, and leadership—values that continue to shape the way we work and the standards we uphold.
